Advice for people might have been victim of an iTunes scam update

A short while ago we highlighted the case of a client who very nearly fell for the iTunes scam, and you may recall that several other people were contacted about the same time by the fraudsters.

We are grateful to the client for forwarding a copy of a letter received shortly afterwards from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, and we are pleased to pass on some contact details that you may find useful.

If you would like information on how to protect yourself from fraud then you should visit http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/support_for_you.

You can contact them on 0300 123 2040.

There is also a free service allowing you “to receive tips, guidance and helpful advice to prevent fraud against you” and also provide you with warning messages about new and emerging scams. You can sign up to this service at http://www.actionfraudalert.co.uk/.

Hopefully, you will find the above contact details helpful. Always remember, the tax office will never ask you for your banking or other personal details by telephone or by e-mail. If you receive a call that you think is suspicious then put the phone down and contact the tax office on a known and published contact number using a different telephone line.
