The Autumn Statement this year is on 3rd December. This is when the Chancellor announces his proposals for the future.
In the good old days there was an Autumn Statement and a Budget in March. The Autumn Statement announced the proposed social security benefits for the following year. Then in March, the Budget would give details of the tax changes that would take place from that April for the following year. Simple!
Now things are all mixed up, and we have the Autumn Statement and the Budget both of which
- Deal with everything
- For the year after next
This has a number of advantages, the main one being that we now much further in advance what is being proposed.
In any event, we will let you know the main proposals as quickly as possible after the statement.
